Amari Coral Beach Phuket

I am well travelled and this hotel gets my highest marks to date. It is situated at one end of Patong Beach. Patong is the place to be for partying and nightlife and puts Bangkok to shame. This hotel sits away from the hectic nightlife but takes three minutes and $2U.S to get there by cab. If you chose, you can walk down the beach into town in about ten minutes. but there is always a cab or tuk-tuk waiting. (A tuk-tuk is a little three-wheel motor-cycle-type enclosed cab). .The hotel has a couple of great pools, a number of fantastic restaurants and the rooms are modern, large and have great views straight over the beach. The only criticism that I can come up with is the fact that the outer-lying rooms take a few minutes to walk to from reception but seeing as you walk past the pools and restaurts, it is not much of a criticism and is really about the only thing I can think of to criticize this hotel.\n\nHighly recommended.

Getting conned.

Everywhere in Thailand people try to scam you. Although you never feel threatened, it gets tiresome. The only time we were sucessfully scammed was going to a club in Patong. We went to see the 'ping-pong' ladies (If you know what that means). Men were holding signs trying to attract you to their particular club. One man took us into the club...no cover charge...no exit fee....no apparent problem. He got us two beers which were $5 each...a little steep for the area. We bought him one and he left. Turns out beers were $2.50 and he just made $7.50...nice one.
