Hotel 1898 Barcelona Spain
I am very picky about hotel rooms It took me awhile to finally find this hotel. I couldn't be more pleased with this hotel. It held up to all of what I expected. It was unbelievabley clean. The location was great near everything. You can walk everywhere. Watch out for the taxi drivers they go the long way around if you need to go to the airport. You really can walk from the port. You are better off taking the bus right at the Catalunya Sq. It is only a 3 min. walk from the hotel. Also, Take the bus tour for 21 Euro you can ride it all day and get to see everything. From Auburn Ma.
Impressed
Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. Great location. Clean, updated and modern. Location is ideal for access to shopping and restaurants. Whether staying here or elsewhere be certain ti use a money belt or other device in Barcelona, especially on La Rambla and the surrounding area. The hotel staff even suggested this. Do not use backpacks.
Great location, beautiful hotel
We didnt know what to expect in Barcelona, not ever been there...Must to our surprise and expectations, we were more than excited...We called it ""New Orleans on steroids"", if you get the picture....This accomodation was just exactly what we hoped it would be...Very clean, very pretty, modern, very helpful staff... We needed to get to the airport extremely early, the desk had our taxi waiting at the front door....Would definitely recommend...
Absolutely Fabulous! Can we live here?
This is an utterly gorgeous, gracious and well located hotel. Decor is dramatic and stunning, not only the lobby but the halls and rooms, too. Very high ceilings allow for this unique style. Rooms are spacious and very clean. We had three rooms for our family: two had street views and the third had a view of an atrium. This was not the usual ventilation shaft one sometimes gets stuck with. This was a soothing view of red painted walls and beautiful plantings. The bed linens were the high end hotel variety that you wish you could have in your own home. The staff was unfailingly gracious and everyone spoke English. The breakfast buffet is pricey but well worth it. We arrived very early and just hung out in the dining room until our rooms were ready. No one rushed us as we drank endless cups of coffee and sampled the buffet. The next two mornings, we had room service breakfasts, also very nice. Complimentary tea is served in the lobby bar every afternoon. A lovely way to end an afternoon of sightseeing. Outdoor pool deck has a bar, pool side ""beds"", and great views of the city. But if you do nothing else in this hotel, you absolutely MUST try the serenity pool in the basement. Low lights and a variety of water jets (some in chairs, some like waterfalls, another like a whirlpool) wash off the stress of traveling and sightseeing in the most soothing manner. We ended our days there, prior to dinner. Not fish eaters, we found two restaurants around the corner to the left as you exit the hotel. One is Sagarro; the other is directly across from it. The second one is the gem. Sorry I don't recall the name.
Hotel 1898
I would recommend Hotel 1898 if you are planning to visit Barcelona and want to be close to many tourist areas. It is right on Las Ramblas and walking distance to the Boqueria, Placa de Catalunya, the port location, many tapas bars...and a Starbucks is right next door! They have a great outdoor swimming pool and bar on the seventh floor that has a very nice view of the city. The staff was friendly and assisted us with our sightseeing tours. They also provided very good recommendations for restaurants. The rooms were nice and isolated from the noise coming from Las Ramblas. The beds were comfortable. The only down side was the air conditioning. The A/C either cooled the room too much or not enough. I would gladly stay again at Hotel 1898 given the opportunity to return to Barcelona
