What a gorgeous hotel!

Faith R. from Las Vegas, NV – Would stay again
Stayed Nov 2009, 5 days Most Recent Stay

Went with a tour group for a 6 day trip to Beijing to see all the sights. Really only went to the hotel at night, but enjoyed our stay. We were in a standard room , and as the other reviewers will say, I have to agree that the beds are hard. Much like sleeping on top of a box spring. And forget about the idea that it'll be good for your back, cause mine didn't feel great at all in the morning. Indoor pool was relaxing and they have a sauna and a small workout room all there for you. Gotta wear a bathing cap, even the guys with short hair. They'll sell you one if you need it. Spa wasn't fully open but I got a nice facial to get the pollution ick out of my skin. Dinner buffet wasn't great, lots of odd choices. Breakfast buffet was fine though. Bar is ok, but a little smoky. Didn't try the Italian restuarant. Staff was friendly and helpful for finding places that American's like to go see - they have the Hard Rock Cafe address committed to memory - guess we all go there. Walking distance to Tianamen Square and Forbidden City. Rooms seemed hot all the time. Ladies, bring a lighted makeup mirror because the lighting in the bathroom was pretty dim. Also, the provide a hair dryer, but the only spot we could plug it in was at the desk and there's no mirror there. Bring converters because you'll need them. Water - 2 bottles - every day and they refill all the bathroom stuff every day. Pillows, comforters and towels are all really nice and soft.

First real international trip

Dale G. from Chicago, IL – Would stay again
Stayed Dec 2008, 5 days

I enjoyed my stay at Capital Hotel. I got a deluxe room and found it to be more than enough room and luxury. Everyone was very good to me and very helpful when I asked questions. Because I was there to learn more about China and it's history I didn't hang around the hotel other than to sleep. It was very quiet and the bathroom was impressive in both size and functionality. I would stay there again without question.

Type:Area Attractions Distance: Short walk from hotel

Forbidden City

Walk to the Forbidden City. I was happy I went in December because I was able to take many pictures without big crowds. It's an amazing site and so close to the hotel. If you go in December dress warm and bring a digital camera with plenty of space
Type:Dining Distance: Short walk from hotel

Eat Out

I wanted to experience local places to eat real everyday food. I was very happy with both the prices and the food. You might want to bring your own fork because not all will have one for you if you can't use the chop sticks. The chop sticks are fun to try but the food is so good you are going to want to focus on eating.
Type:Area Attractions Distance: Requires transportation

The Nest

Take a taxi and go see the birds nest. The olympics venues are very impressive and it gives you a chance to take some pictures of current history to go along with the amazing pictures of the past you will get from the other sites.

Take the train to Boading

I wanted to see a smaller town and Boading gave me that experience. The local people were wonderful to me and while you are there go see the lotus gardens. It's an amazing place in December so I can't imagine how beautiful it would be in the warmer months. The train is very clean. Make sure you get a return ticket when you get there because the lines for tickets to Beijing can be long.
Type:Area Attractions Distance: Requires transportation

Great Wall

You can't go to China and not experience the Great Wall. I am not fond of hieghts but this was a place I felt was a must see and I was completely correct. The people are wonderful and you will see one of the great historic places.
Type:Shopping Distance: Requires transportation

Silk Market

Take a taxi to the Silk Market, be sure to purchase an extra bag because you will need it. They have lots of deals and if you are any good at negotiations you will be very happy with this market. Remember baggage weight limit when you are looking at all the wonderful things you can buy. To be compeletly honest if I ever go back I won't bring any luggage except a carry on for personal items because I will want to purchase to checked bags at the market to fill with treasures.

Great Hotel in Beijing!

Anonymous from Washington, DC – Would stay again
Stayed Nov 2008, 2 days

I made a last minute trip to Beijing and found this hotel at a great price on Travelocity. It has a great location being minutes away from the Forbidden City, it has great amenities, including a bowling alley, swimming pool, restaurants, and KTV. I got it at a great price and after I got upgraded to a suite, it was even a better value. While it's not the newest hotel in Beijing, it still has some moves! The next time I am in Beijing, this would be my first choice as a price sensitive shopper..

Shopping at Silk Road

Do not forget to shop at the famous Silk Road, where everything is negotiable! Every place is a taxi ride away, but it would be worth the trip for the experience alone...

Capital Hotel Review

David B. from Cedar Rapids, IA – Would stay again
Stayed Sep 2008, 1 day

This hotel exceeded our expectations in almost every way. Upon check-in, we were informed that the rooms we had reserved were unavailable, so we were upgraded, at no cost, to executive level rooms. The rooms were exceptional and the service in the restaurant and bar were outstanding.

3rd Hotel in 6 Months - Best so far

Martin T. from Portland, OR – Would stay again
Stayed Jul 2008, 5 days

Great location for tourist sites and an English speaking friendly place to stay. Beds are very firm, as is usual in China, nothing out of the ordinary. If I were to visit that area of Beijing again I would stay there without any hesitation. Only two possible downsides but both are minor and can likely be avoided. First... Had two double beds and wanted a Queen. They were never able to accomodate us with a larger bed during our 5 day stay. Second... Taxi driver overcharged us by double for the ride back to the airport. Not something I would normally associate with the hotel but the person checking us out specifically called for this taxi driver out of the line of cabs. My Chinese speaking friend thought it was a bit odd. Any way easy to avoid, just require taxi driver to show you the print out of the fare.

Taxis are friendly and cheap

Walking around is great and you will likely do a lot but taxis are fantastic. They are friendly and the price cannot be beat. So for long or short distances a taxi is the way to go.
