Rendezvous Hotel Auckland

This hotel caters more to business travelers than vacationers, so is not set up well for tourists. The rooms are nice, the rates were not bad, and even the room service prices were comparably reasonable. That being said, there was nothing practical and nearby for inexpensive eating and last minute purchases. There were vending machines in the spa, but only for vitamin waters and juices. It was a bit of a hike to find the nearest fast food restaurant or convenience store, and when you are tired and on a budget, that matters. The staff was reasonably helpful, but we ended up feeling pretty out of place as casual tourists.

Hotel was newly converted to the Clarion chain but not identified as such when booking a reservation. Expectation was for a higher level of luxury than what Clarion delivered especially for the rate charged. Bed was not comfortable and air quality in room was poor. A/C was very noisy and temperature was not maintained evenly, too hot then too cold without changing the setting. Everything (towels,bedding linens and furniture) was shabby and worn. Restaurant at dinner was full and turned away hotel guests. Breakfast buffet was unappealing with flying insects hovering everywhere. Shuttle bus service advertised was not available, nor was any accommodation to compensate for alternative.
