DANUBIUS HOTEL GELLERT

The historic hotel is lovely and looks out over the Danube and Freedom Bridge to Pest. The trams to various parts of the city are across the street. The hotel's staff were friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The only down side was toilet room smelled of sewer and the pipes made banging noises during the night. The hotel provides free access to the wonderful thermal pools of Hungary that are behind the hotel.

Fantastic and charming hotel at the heart of Budapest where I spent a week with my housband. Our room was a surprisingly big one with balcony, bathroom was a bit old fashioned but spotless. We heard a lot about Hungary?s world famous baths and now I understand why people says that ?Budapest is the city of baths?. The Gell?rt bath was impressive we enyojed it very much.\n\n

I was supposed to stay in this hotel for a week, but checked out after 2 days. That's how bad it was. The Gellert could be a magnificent hotel if someone put about a 100 millions dollars into it. It's baths are famous and worth a look. However, the place is terribly run down. The first room I was given was the size of a monk's cell. Bleak and depressing. I changed to a room which was overlooking the Danube. The view was superb, but the room was threadbare. Be aware they do not have air conditioning in all their rooms. The breakfast buffet was quite good, as was dinner. But the staff is surly and unhelpful. I changed to the K+K which was much nicer.
