Not what we expected but okay
Hotel scene was great. We chose to Self Park which was a great price considering there were plenty of restaurants and other places nearby. The concierge was very helpful and gave us maps of the area. We signed up for the "Select Guest Program" at the front desk. The elevators were cold and very clunky. Our room was okay. The water pressure was great despite other reviews I've read. However the toilet seat shape was very weird. It was long and not wide. My husband found this uncomfortable. The bed was hard as rocks and for a pregnant woman...it was almost unbearable. Signing up for the "Select Guest Program" was supposed to give us certain benefits like, evening housekeeping service, including turndown, complimentary wireless internet, etc.. Not once in our 3 night stay did we receive an evening turndown. The wireless internet is horrible. Signal was very weak (we were on the seventh floor). We assumed INTERNET would be provided in the BUSINESS CENTER since we were staying in a FOUR DIAMOND HOTEL....NOT THE CASE...we had to pay a set fee for 15 minutes of use (free if you're printing airline tickets)!! The room service menu...TERRIBLE! I called room service to order soup. Well, they didn't have soup, so I picked something else out and they didn't have that. Then Iâm told AFTER HOURS menu was discontinuedâŠbasically we have this, not that, not that, this, not that, not that. I ended up eating something from the kids menu which arrived in a decent amount of time and was very delicious. The Illume Restaurant has very good food. The breakfast buffet which included a drink was $* per personâŠvery great...but very pricey, dinner was nice as well.
Weekend in Charlotte
I was very impressed with the staff and how attentive they were to me and my wife. After checking in and having our car parked it was amazing that 100% of the time we were coming and going over the weekend, everytime we passed the desk staff and the parking staff they were able to greet us by name...every time we walked by the said hello to us by name! The room was great, though the water pressure in the shower could be improved a bit. It took time and effort to get the shampoo out of our hair. Overall great stay, good location and wonderful staff.
The Omni is awesome...
I really liked staying in the Omni. Everyone was very helpful and friendly and the hotel is beautiful. The restaurant in the hotel is a bit on the pricey side, their food is decent but not the greatest. Also, the hotel is always super cold...I guess that can be a good thing or a bad thing. They also have a cool looking roof-top pool but I never had time to check it out.
The Omni Folks were great!
We had only one complaint. We were in Charlotte for a conference. Our first day was Friday and we saw so many great places to have coffee or purchase lunch and shop. On Saturday and Sunday (the only 2 other days we were there) everything was closed. The hotel was great - - service was excellent.
The Omni - going downhill
We have always had good experiences at the Charlotte Omni. This time, not so much. At check-in I used a Visa check card, which I have used all over the world as a credit card. Here they charged me $250 security deposit just to get a key to the mini-bar. And when we got to the room, I couldn't find a phone book to scope out local restaurants. When I called the front desk, they informed me that there were no phone books in the entire hotel because they are ""going green."" This is just ridiculous. There are still Bibles in the rooms, which might be of some comfort to a few people but not much use to out-of-town travellers in search of local goods and services!
